What Marketing Results Do You Want?
Without testing or monitoring your marketing results, there is no way of knowing what is helping generating more new business … and what is little more than a waste of resources.
Monitor Your Marketing Results
Monitoring your marketing results is neither difficult nor demanding.
It starts with clarifying in as much detail as possible the purpose of your marketing.
What marketing results do you want to achieve? In other words, what action do you want your target audience to take in response to your marketing?
Do you want site visitors to click a link?
What do you want social media friends, followers and fans to do in response to your post? Like your page or comment … visit your website…or do something else?
Instead of just sitting back waiting for clients to hire you, start tracking your marketing results.
When did the target audience start to respond?
How many took the actions that you wanted them to take?
This tracking does not require a university degree in either or both of statistics and information management. The effect of offline initiatives can be tracked manually with the help of a spreadsheet.
Online tracking resources include built-in website statistics, Google analytics and a wide range of tools and services that will help monitor marketing results.
Choose and use whatever tools and techniques work best for your situation.
How To Improve Your Marketing Results
Gratifying as it may be to learn that your marketing activities are performing well, that’s not the point of the monitoring. The real purpose is to increase the overall effectiveness of your marketing.
There are three key elements in which marketing can be improved.
Message: It’s critical that the marketing message connect with the target audience and offer a compelling reason for taking the action you want them to take. There are lots of variables in messages to change and improve: heading, body, tone, voice and call to action.
For optimum effectiveness all of these variables must help connect with the target audience.
Media: Whether alone or in combination with others, text, video, audio, graphics and images all contribute to the overall effectiveness of marketing messages.
Platforms: Choosing the appropriate platform is essential to get your message in front of the people with whom you want to communicate.
Depending on your target audience appropriate platforms include print or electronic media, website, blog, social media and digital media. Like media, it is essential to match the platform with the audience you want to reach.
Lots of things to consider here.
Given the above content as background information, what would it take to improve your marketing results? What suggests this action would be appropriate?
